Augmented and Virtual Reality have an infinite amount of applications both in and outside of education. One thing that’s very near and dear to me, however, is the accessibility options that are offered with VR and AR. The best way I’ve seen YouTube and VR used was with a elementary school student on the autism spectrum. During a very emotional move out of the student’s childhood home, the parents decided to use technology to create an easier and less traumatic transition for their child. They created a series of YouTube videos that were situated inside and outside the house. Using Playstation VR, their child was able to visit their old home at any time, and feel immersed in a familiar, safe environment.
I think VR and AR can be used to enhance learning in any subject, as it can be used to explore the real world, history, and fantastical realms.
